About Me
Hi, I’m Summer Jacobsen. I believe in big magic, little voices, and saying “Yes, y’all!” as often as possible. I didn’t always know I wanted to be a teacher. In fact, I left college unsure of my path and spent years Managing offices and retail stores. But when my two boys started school, their joy - and the joy their teachers brought them - inspired me to imagine something different. One teacher in particular, my oldest son’s kindergarten teacher, created such a magical space that I found myself thinking, I want to do that too!
So I went back to school, earned my degree in Religious Studies, and completed an alternate-route certification to become a teacher. Since then, I’ve earned my Master of Education and became a National Board Certified Teacher ... because when you love something, you don’t just show up — you dig deep and grow. That was 11 years ago, and I’ve been saying “Yes, y’all!” ever since.
Learning takes root in love.
When students feel safe and seen, they grow beyond expectations.
Rooted in love. Fueled by curiosity. Lifted by ‘Yes, Y’all!'

My Philosophy
Learning takes root in love. When students feel safe and seen, they grow beyond expectations. That’s the foundation. When students know they matter, everything else falls into place.
Connection comes first - because when kids feel truly loved, they begin to believe in themselves. You’ll do everything you can to lift them up… and soon they’ll start lifting themselves.

“Yes, Y’all!” in Action
Around here, “Yes, y’all!” isn’t just a saying — it’s a teaching philosophy. I’ve said yes to some wild and wonderful things:

-
Beekeeping & Books: My students wrote to the superintendent asking for a real beehive. Not only did they get one at the Bus Barn, the superintendent drove the bus to pick us up and show us the bees. In return, the kids gifted them three bee-themed books they had written and illustrated to master text features.
-
City Council Presentations: One year, my class presented to our city council to host a public screening of Kiss the Ground in the local park. They prepared, presented, and made real change happen.
-
Living History in Style: When kids asked if they could dress as famous Americans, teach the school, and arrive in a limo? Of course I said ... Yes, y’all!

Why I Share
I believe in the power of saying yes: to kids’ voices, to bold ideas, and to joy in learning.
But I know it’s hard to be a “Yes, y’all!” teacher when you’re surrounded by “No, ma’am” energy. That’s why I built this space—to inspire, uplift, and remind educators what’s possible when we teach from the heart.

So whether you're a fellow teacher, a curious parent, or just someone who loves learning, I’m so glad you’re here.

Let’s say YES, y’all!
